What You’ll Need
Before you get started on this exciting journey of plugin and block development, here’s a simple checklist of what you should have ready:
- Node version 14.17.0+: Make sure you have Node.js installed on your computer, preferably version 14.17.0 or newer.
- VS Code or a Similar Code Editor: Have a code editor like Visual Studio Code ready on your computer for writing code efficiently.
- Git: Git is essential for tracking changes and working with others. Make sure it’s installed, and you’re comfortable with the basics.
- Local WordPress Version 6.3+ Setup: Set up a local WordPress environment with at least version 6.3 so you can work on your plugins and blocks.
What You Should Already Know
To make the most of this Plugin Team session, it’s essential to have some basic knowledge in the following areas:
- PHP: A good understanding of PHP is essential since you’ll be creating plugins that interact with WordPress.
- Basic WordPress Functions: Knowing your way around basic WordPress functions will help you create effective plugins.
- Beginner React and Hooks: You don’t need to be a React expert, but having a basic understanding of React and its hooks will be really helpful.
- Basic Git Commands: Familiarity with basic Git commands will come in handy for version control and collaborating with the team.
Please keep in mind that this session is tailored for folks who already have some prior knowledge of WordPress and React coding basics. We won’t be spending a lot of time on these fundamentals during the session. Instead, we’ll dive deeper into creating WordPress plugins and blocks, exploring best practices, and collaborating with other WordPress enthusiasts.
