If you are in Kathmandu, Nepal during your WordCamp Kathmandu 2023, some places could be a must-visit!

This country’s beautiful sculpture and natural beauty attracts tourists worldwide. Ranging from holy and sacred Pashupatinath to the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Lumbini, Nepal, has immersive attractions. 

It meanders to the beautiful city of Lake Pokhara and a cultural town of its own, Ghale Gown, followed by attractive national parks and wildlife reserves. 

The option never finishes. To help you experience a worthy visit, we have listed the best places you can visit in Nepal.

Places to Visit Around Kathmandu

Nagarkot

Nagarkot has always been famous for its sunrise. This popular village is located in Bhaktapur District of Nepal. 

One can see a panoramic view of the Himalayan mountains. You can see some of the world’s highest peaks such as Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. Along with the natural beauty, Nagarkot offers cultural attractions. 

The location of Nagarkot makes it a convenient destination for a short getaway away from Kathmandu Valley. Hotel Mystic Mountain is the perfect place for a night stay. They’ll serve you uncountable dishes and the service is amazing. 

Things you can do in Nagarkot:

Shivapuri Hiking

This park has various flora and fauna, a range of hiking options and rich biodiversity. You can do any of these hiking trails: 

  • Shivapuri National Park entrance to Baghdwar
  • Nagi Gompa and Shivapuri peak
  • Nagarkot to Shivapuri

We’d suggest you go to this place if you want to get away from Kathmandu Valley’s hustle and bustle.

Chitlang, Tistung, and Palung

Chitlang, Tistung, and Palung are picturesque villages nestled in the lush landscapes of Makwanpur, just a couple of hours away from Kathmandu. Chitlang, known for its tranquility and scenic beauty, offers a serene escape from bustling city life. The village is renowned for its historic significance, showcasing ancient temples, terraced fields, and a peaceful atmosphere that captivates visitors.

Tistung and Palung, on the other hand, enchant with their stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. These charming villages invite travelers to experience the authentic rural lifestyle of Nepal, complete with traditional architecture and warm hospitality.

All three of these places are in the same trail, just 30 minutes apart from each other.

Things you can do in Chitlang, Tistung, and Palung: 

  • Interact with locals and try farming for a day, trust me this will be a lifetime experience.
  • Hike to the hills like Bhede Farm, Mulabari, Chandragiri. 
  • Keep an eye out for various birds and wildlife. 
  • Try meditation, relaxation and mindful contemplation.

Mohini Jharana

Mohini Jharana is a beautiful waterfall located in Makwanpur district. The water falls from a significant height creating a mesmerizing sight and soothing sound. 

If you ever get there, just get yourself wet with the water. Get inside there. If you know swimming, swim there. If you don’t know how to swim, you’re just like me. Still, get in there following safety precautions. 

You’ll be able to create a lifetime memory. I will never get over the memory of looking at Mohini Jharana from nearby. The feeling is unbeatable. Close your eyes and feel the water and its sound. It’s too amazing to be real. 

Things you can do in Mohini Jharana: 

  • Take your time and admire the breathtaking Mohini Jharana.
  • Try swimming, if you know how to swim.
  • Eat food nearby, the local Nepali thali and fish of course. 
  • Observe rural life and outdoors
  • After hiking for 20-30 minutes, you can go boating in Kulekhani Lake.

Kirtipur – Historic City 

Kirtipur is a historic city located on the hilltop of Kathmandu Valley. The city played a significant role during different historical periods and in the unification of Nepal. 

If you visit Kirtipur don’t miss out on going to Bagh Bhairav, Chilancho stupa, Uma Maheshwor, Tribhuvan University, Kritipur Gumba, local markets and more. 

The tree structure near Tribhuvan University is amazing. Riding a scooter or bike or cycle in that area will heal so many things inside you. It’s a thing worth trying out. 

Things you can do in Kirtipur: 

  • If you know cycling, you should try it! 
  • Observe Newari culture and local people. 
  • Try Newari cuisine! Don’t miss out on momo, yomari and various Newari delicacies. 
  • Explore local markets and handicraft shops. 
  • Look at intricate wood carvings, design and unique architectural features.

Famous Tourist Destinations of Nepal

Having said that, you’ll never discover heaven without exploring. Some of these places will remind you why Nepal is called Heaven. 

Pokhara

It’s never too late to visit Pokhara. But don’t blame me if you’ll never get over this beautiful city. Pokhara is renowned in the world for its stunning natural beauty, serene lakes, and wide range of attractions. 

If you’re in Pokhara do visit Phewa Lake, Tal Barahi temple, Sarangkot, Gupteshwor Cave, Devi’s Fall, Chamero Gufa, Seti River Gorge, Kamal Pokhari, etc. 

Hiking, cycling, paragliding, and bungee jumping are the things to try, if you’re an adventurous person. 

However, the night scene of visiting the lakeside, going to fun parks and trying fairy’s wheel or other games that you like. Running around the streets of the lakeside will be a memory of a lifetime. 

Things you can do in Pokhara: 

  • Enjoy the night on the lakeside. 
  • Boating, paragliding, zip-lining and bungee jumping. 
  • Stunning sunrise at Srangkot over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. 
  • Explore Devi’s Fall where water disappears underground. 
  • Annapurna circuit and Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

Lumbini

Lumbini holds immense historical importance as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam who later became Gautama Buddha. The Maya Devi temple is believed to be the exact spot where Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Gautama Buddha. 

Also, you can view the Ashoka pillar that was erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE to mark the birthplace of Buddha. Both of these places are surrounded by a sacred garden. 

Lumbini’s serene atmosphere is conducive to meditation and self-reflection. Many visitors come here to find inner peace and spiritual enlightenment.

Things you can do in Lumbini: 

  • Visit different monasteries. 
  • Solace by the shores of Pushkarini Pond.
  • Visit the Bodhi tree in Lumbini.

Chitwan

Chitwan is a district located in the southwestern part of Nepal. Chitwan National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This place is widely famous for its rich biodiversity and cultural experiences. 

While visiting the Chitwan Nation part you can do jungle safaris, jeep tours, elephant rides, or just take a guided walk. There you’ll be able to spot diverse wildlife that includes Tiger, Elephant, Rhinos, and many species of birds. 

If you want to gain cultural experience, we’d suggest you visit Tharu villages. There you can interact with them and find out about their culture. In the meantime, you can also enjoy traditional dance performances.

Annapurna Base Camp 

Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is one of the most iconic and popular trekking routes in Nepal. While trekking in the region, you’ll be able to see stunning mountain views, and diverse landscapes and interact with local people. 

Most of the ABC trekkers begin from the Ghorepani and Poon Hill detour. There you can witness a spectacular sunrise that you’ll remember for the rest of your life! 

After finishing the ABC trekking you can relax in natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda. This will definitely be a soothing end to your mesmerizing trekking. 

Things you can do in Annapurna Base Camp:
