Diversity at WordCamp Kathmandu 2022

diversity at WCKTM2022

#WCKTM2022 is successfully conducted ensuring a diverse stage. As WordCamps do not make discrimination against all WordPress enthusiasts, we heartily welcomed all WordPress users, developers, designers, as well as interested freshers, without any consideration of their experience level.

We conducted sessions in 3 halls parallelly. Every session was in a variety of formats, including presentations, demo sessions, workshops, Q&A, panels, discussions, and any other format you can imagine.

We had a total of 23 Speakers. Out of that, 18 were local personnel, and 5 were from the international stage. Among them, there were 4 female WordPress Experts. Some of the speakers were Developers, some of them were SEO experts, some were working mothers, some were designers, one was a working student, a number of digital marketers, and a few were project managers. After all, each of them was a motivation altogether amazing expertise.

As it is a local-level WordPress Conference, it is overwhelming to showcase local talents. It’s pretty enjoyable to hear from Lead WordPress Developers and other well-known WordPress personalities. But, to not make this huge event like a lecture circuit with the same speakers, again and again, we tried to include many new faces as much as possible.

Talking about the new faces, we had 9 of the newbie Contribution Day Team Leads out of 10. However, they are working as WordPress Professionals for years. One of the Table Leads was from India. In addition to learning from each other, there was a Job Board for the advertisement as well as the vacancy announcement from several WordPress companies in multiple designations.

Moreover, within the whole WordCamp crowd, we hope attendees found new collaborators, employees/employers, and potential fellow conspirators. Although we had cumulated divergent populations, there were many with similar thoughts. After all, we are connected through WordPress.

WordPress is an Open Source Community and it is the signature of open source communities to have diversity and inclusion. WordCamp Kathmandu 2022 was also a good example of that. And as we all know, new ideas get born in between the diverse group of people.
