WordCamp Kathmandu 2026 kicked off with Contributor Day, bringing together WordPress enthusiasts, developers, designers, creators, and open-source contributors for a day of learning, collaboration, and giving back to the WordPress project.
Held at Alice Receptions in Gairidhara, Kathmandu, on the 18th of September, Contributor Day brought people of different experience levels together around a shared goal: contributing to the open-source project that brings WordPress to millions of people around the world.
From the moment the tables got started, participants had the chance to learn about different Make WordPress teams, ask questions, work alongside experienced contributors, and explore how they could contribute to WordPress.
A Day of Learning, Collaboration, and Contribution
Contributor Day is about more than writing code. There are many ways to contribute to WordPress, from translating and reviewing themes and plugins to improving accessibility, creating patterns, supporting education, and contributing photography.
At WordCamp Kathmandu 2026, participants could explore a range of contribution areas, including Photo, Themes and Theme Review, Core, Accessibility, Patterns, Education, Training, Plugins and Plugin Review, Polyglots, and Full Site Editing.
For first-time contributors, the tables provided an opportunity to understand how each team works and discover where their skills and interests could fit within the wider WordPress project.
For experienced contributors, it was a chance to share knowledge, collaborate in person, and help bring more people into the WordPress contributor community.
Meet the People Behind the Tables
A big part of the day’s success came from the contributors who volunteered their time and experience to lead the different tables.
Photo
The Photo table was led by Alina Kakshapati and Uttkrista Chhetri.
Participants explored how they can contribute photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory and learned more about the role of photography within the WordPress project.
Themes and Theme Review
Bijay Yadav led the Themes and Theme Review table.
The table gave participants an opportunity to learn more about theme development, review processes, and maintaining quality within the WordPress theme ecosystem.
Core
Rajan Lama led the Core table.
The table gave participants an opportunity to focus on contributing directly to the WordPress software itself.
Patterns
The Patterns table was led by Madan G.C.
Participants explored WordPress Patterns and learned how reusable designs are created and how they can contribute to the Pattern Directory.
Accessibility
Nazmul Hasan Robin led the Accessibility table.
The table focused on making WordPress more accessible and usable for everyone, while helping participants understand how they can contribute to this important area.
Education
The Education table was led by Pooja Derashri.
The table introduced participants to opportunities to contribute to WordPress education and helped them understand how they can support learning initiatives within the community.
Training
Rajan Mani Poudel led the Training table.
The table introduced participants to ways they can contribute to WordPress training resources and help others learn WordPress.
Plugins and Plugin Review
The Plugins and Plugin Review table was led by Rakesh Lawaju and Roshan Nagaju.
Participants explored plugin development, the review process, and different ways to contribute to the WordPress plugin ecosystem.
Polyglots
Ravi Khadka led the Polyglots table.
Participants learned how WordPress translations help make the project accessible to people around the world and how they can contribute in their own languages.
Full Site Editing
Santosh Kunwar led the Full Site Editing table.
Participants had the opportunity to explore modern WordPress site-building workflows and learn more about the future of site editing.
Learning Together
One of the highlights of Contributor Day was the opportunity to learn directly from people who are already contributing to WordPress.
Participants asked questions, worked through tasks, shared ideas, and learned by doing. For some, it was their first experience contributing to an open-source project. For others, it was a chance to reconnect with the community and help new contributors get started.
The tables also showed how many different skills can find a place in open source.
You can contribute through code, design, writing, translation, photography, education, accessibility, documentation, and many other areas.
